About Us

On the 15th of February, 1981, approximately sixty local calligraphers gathered to discuss their ideas, give suggestions, and express their interest in forming a calligraphy club in central Ohio.

Ideas were gathered and thoughts were molded together over the weeks that followed. By April 13th of that year, The Calligraphy Guild of Columbus was formed, officers elected, bylaws approved and committees formed.

The enthusiastic response shown by Columbus area calligraphers resulted in a charter membership of ninety by May 31, 1981.

The Calligraphy Guild of Columbus is a nonprofit educational association founded in 1981 to foster the appreciation and practice of calligraphy and book arts through the study of its historical and contemporary applications. Lectures, workshops, a library and newsletters are supported by annual dues. Exhibitions, designed to promote the general public’s appreciation of calligraphy, are mounted periodically.
Membership is open to all.
